U.S. Army Female Drill Sergeants have trained Soldiers for over 40 years. The first six female candidates to complete the Drill Sergeant School began training Soldiers in 1972, after receiving permission to be included in the Drill Sergeant Program by the Army Chief of Staff. These first females were graduates from the Women's Army Corps and stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama. What is it? Military Appreciation Days at Myrtle Beach

Martinez is Grand Marshal for the Military Appreciation Days parade on Sat., May 16, which also is Armed Forces Day. Martinez was severely wounded during a tour of duty in Iraq in 2003.
